1100 episodes. No filter. No search. No quick jump. Just endless scrolling.
The Problem I Discovered
Last week, I sat down to watch Radhakrishna Season 1 on Disney+ Hotstar. Great show. Amazing story. Over 1100 episodes.
I was on Episode 115. The story felt slow. I wanted to skip ahead to Episode 117.
Simple, right?
Wrong.
Here's what I found:
1100+ episodes listed in descending order only
No filter to change the order
No search bar to find specific episodes
No quick jump feature
Only option? Scroll. Endlessly.
For a serial with 1100 episodes, finding Episode 117 means scrolling past 983 episodes.
That's not inconvenient. That's broken UX.
Why This Matters
Indian TV serials are uniquely long-form:
Millions of users watch these daily. Every single one faces this navigation nightmare.
This isn't a small problem. It's a massive UX failure affecting millions.
My Solution: 3 Simple Features
As a UI/UX Designer, I couldn't just complain. I designed three simple, implementable solutions.
Solution 1: Sort Filter
The Problem: Episodes only display newest to oldest. No choice.
The Fix: Add a simple dropdown toggle:
Ascending (Episode 1 → 1100)
Descending (Episode 1100 → 1)
Let users choose their preferred order.
Impact: Basic control. Instant improvement.
Solution 2: Episode Range Filter
The Problem: 1100 episodes in one endless list. No segmentation.
The Fix: Add horizontal scrollable chips:
[ 1-100 ] [ 101-200 ] [ 201-300 ] [ 301-400 ] ...
One tap = Jump to your range.
Impact: Reduces scrolling by 50-90% instantly.
Solution 3: Smart Search Bar
The Problem: No way to search for specific episodes.
The Fix: Add a search bar with two modes:
Key Insight: Many users don't remember episode numbers. But they remember a word from the title.
"That episode where Rukmini..." is easier to recall than "Episode 245."
Design for real human behavior.
Impact: Direct access to any episode in seconds.
Before vs After
Let's visualize the transformation:
The Final Design
All three solutions working together:
The Takeaway
Simple changes. Big impact.
These three features aren't revolutionary. They're fundamental UX patterns that most apps already have.
Yet they're missing from one of India's largest streaming platforms.
The best UX solutions aren't about adding complexity. They're about removing friction.
Sometimes users don't need AI recommendations or fancy animations. They need basic functionality that respects their time.
